COLGAN AIR, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Pinnacle Airlines Corp., is a regional airline operating as Continental Connection, United Express and US Airways Express. Colgan has been recognized for the exceptional service levels it provides its Customers and is a leader in providing air service to small and medium-sized cities in the United States. Colgan operates as a regional airliner and has hub operations in Boston, Houston, New York, Pittsburgh and Washington, DC. In February 2008, Colgan Air launched the 74-seat Q400, operating as Continental Connection from Newark Liberty International Airport.
History of Colgan Air
COLGAN AIR, Inc. Launched in 1991 as a regional airline with headquarters located in Manassas, Virginia and
today operating as a Continental Connection, United Express, and US Airways Express,
offering daily scheduled air service to 76 cities in 17 US States and two (2)
cities in Canada. In 1965, Charles J. Colgan Sr. and sixteen stockholders organized Colgan
Airways Corporation that became the fixed base operator at Manassas Airport. In
1970 the company began scheduled airline operations between Manassas and Washington-Dulles
and Poughkeepsie, NY under contract with IBM that had been located in Manassas,
VA. By 1986 the company was operating nine aircraft to twelve cities from Washington-National
and Washington-Dulles International Airports. In 1986 the company was sold to
Presidential Airlines at Dulles International Airport. In 1991 after Presidential
had gone out of business, Charles J. Colgan, Sr. and his son Mike Colgan organized
Colgan Air, Inc. and went back into business with one airplane.
July
1, 1997: Colgan Air became a Continental Connection through a marketing alliance-code-share
agreement with Continental Airlines.
December 11, 1999:
Colgan Air started operating under a code-share and service
agreement as a
US Airways Express Carrier.
October
4, 2005: Colgan Air started operating under
a code-share and service
agreement as United Express.
The Company operates 40 SAAB 340, five (5) Beech 1900D and 15 Q400 aircraft and employs more than 1,300 regional airline professionals. In 2007 Colgan Air served 1,556,524 passengers.
January 15,2007, Colgan Air was acquired by Pinnacle Airlines Corp., the parent company of Pinnacle Airlines, Inc., a regional airline doing business as Northwest Airlink. This strategic acquisition offers extraordinary opportunities for diversification and expansion into multiple platforms The acquisition of Colgan Air provided access to three more of the eight major carriers in the United States combined, Pinnacle Airlines Corp. provided service as a Continental Connection, United Express, Northwest Airlink and US Airways Express.
